Initial Lactation Consultation

You aren’t alone, breastfeeding issues are common! A comprehensive lactation evaluation will provide the support, encouragement, and direction needed to develop a healthy breastfeeding experience for both you and your baby.

The initial lactation consultation includes the review of maternal and newborn health and birth histories, thorough newborn examination and inspection of mother’s breast anatomy, observation and appropriate assistance with a full feeding, assessment of milk transfer through pre and post weights, and the discussion of all questions and challenges including but not limited to: expected newborn feeding patterns, latching difficulties, nipple pain, engorgement, milk supply issues, infant oral anatomy, and pumping.

Based on my assessments and your individual goals, we will create a customized breastfeeding plan that will be emailed to you within 24 hours of the visit. A visit summary will be sent directly to your pediatrician. This consultation will take place in your home. Average length of the initial visit is 2-3 hours, however, actual times will vary based on individual needs.
